Designing Your Book Cover

Spine Design

Make your book stand out on any shelf

Positioning spine text

You can easily adjust the order and positioning of the spine text by clicking and dragging it up or down. For the best visual balance, it's recommended to leave some space between different sections of text when designing the book's spine.

Spine width and automatic adjustments

The page count and paper/ink type settings in the Paperback tab directly affect the width of your spine. Coverjig will automatically try to reduce the size of the spine text if it’s too large to fit within KDP’s required margins. However, adjustments may vary, so we recommend reviewing the final result and manually resizing if needed.

Mirroring of front cover text

By default, Coverjig replicates the author and title text from the front cover onto the spine. This follows common design conventions to maintain visual consistency. However, you can manually adjust the text if needed.

How to override spine text and apply custom formatting

If you want to customize the spine text:

  1. Click on the spine text or go to theSpine tab.
  2. Toggle Replicate Front Cover Text to the off setting.
  3. Once disabled, you can freely edit the spine text, including:
    • Text content
    • Font & font size
    • Font effects
    • Text casing
    • Text color
