Back Cover Design

Craft a compelling back cover that completes your book’s look

Text formatting

For back cover text, you can customize:

  • Font
  • Font Size
  • Alignment
  • Font Effects (bold, underline, italics)

To adjust these settings, select the back cover text you want to modify and use the pop-down menu.

Text color

You can change the text color using the Text Color option on the Back Cover tab. Note that this will apply the same color to all back cover text.

Depending on the Cover Image Display option selected on theCover tab, you will see slightly different options for adjusting background colors:

Overlay color (for full cover image display)

If your back cover features a background image, you may want to add an overlay color to improve the legibility of the text. For example, if the background image and text are both light colors, adding a dark overlay color will help the text to stand out better.

To adjust the overlay:

  1. Click anywhere on the back cover to open the Back Cover tab.
  2. Use the Overlay Opacity slider to adjust transparency.
  3. Change the overlay color by clicking the Overlay Color button.

Background color (for front cover only image display)

If the background of your back cover is a solid color, the Background Color option simply allows you to change that color.

Text placement restrictions

To ensure your book's back cover design meets KDP’s requirements, Coverjig prevents text from extending into the barcode area. This reduces the risk of KDP rejecting your cover due to text overlapping the barcode.

If your text is positioned too low, consider reducing the font size or adjusting the layout to keep all text within the safe zone.

Barcode placement

When you upload your cover to Amazon KDP, they will automatically add a barcode to the back cover. In Coverjig, we display a barcode placeholder to indicate where this will be positioned. This placeholder is for reference only and will not appear in your final cover files.
