Adding A Hardcover Book Format
Why add a hardcover?
Creating a hardcover edition offers several advantages for KDP authors. Hardcovers are often perceived as more valuable and durable, making them a popular choice for gifting and personal collections. This premium perception can justify a higher retail price, potentially increasing your profit margins.
From a sales perspective, offering a hardcover edition helps expand your book’s market reach. Some readers specifically prefer hardcovers for their aesthetic appeal and longevity, allowing you to tap into a different segment of buyers and boost overall sales.
Additionally, having multiple formats—paperback, hardcover, and eBook—gives readers more options, improving customer satisfaction and loyalty while increasing your book’s visibility across different purchasing preferences.
How to create a hardcover
Once you're satisfied with your paperback design, you can easily create a hardcover version:
- Click Add Book Format in the top bar of the design screen.
- Click the + Add Hardcover button from the dropdown menu.
Coverjig will automatically create a new hardcover design based on your paperback format.
Trim size and page count considerations
- If your paperback trim size isn't available for hardcover, Coverjig will select the closest supported trim size.
- KDP has different page count limits for each format. If your original paperback design exceeds the hardcover page limit of 550 pages, you'll see a warning message. In this case, consider selecting a larger trim size for your hardcover to reduce the page count.
